Intelligence-led operation uncovers drugs in kitchen
A 35-year-old woman has been taken into custody after members of the National Public Order Police (NPOP) discovered ten bags of dagga concealed inside her Strandfontein residence during a targeted raid on Thursday afternoon.
The arrest took place at approximately 13:30 on 19 March 2026 at a property in Capri Way, San Remo, as part of the ongoing Operation Lock Down III initiative in the Western Cape.
Officers acting on intelligence information arrived at the address and conducted a thorough search of the premises. During the operation, they located the ten bags of dagga stashed inside a kitchen drawer.
"The members were busy with intelligence driven operations when they found ten bags of dagga in a house at Capri Way San Remo."
Suspect to face charges in court
The woman was immediately placed under arrest on a charge of possession of dagga. She is expected to make her first appearance at the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court once formal charges have been laid against her.
The bust forms part of broader policing efforts under Operation Lock Down III, which sees NPOP units deployed across the Western Cape to clamp down on drug-related crimes and other criminal activity through intelligence-driven operations.
Drug seizures in residential areas like Strandfontein highlight the persistent challenge of substance distribution networks operating within Cape Town's communities, affecting household safety and neighbourhood stability. For local residents and small businesses, continued policing pressure through operations such as Lock Down III may gradually disrupt supply chains, though sustained enforcement and community cooperation will likely determine whether these interventions produce lasting reductions in drug-related crime across the Western Cape.
