Police in the Free State have launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified man was found at the Plant Waste Sanitation site in Heidedal, prompting authorities to appeal to the public for assistance in establishing his identity.
Grim discovery at water treatment facility
The alarm was raised on Monday, 22 July 2025, at roughly 12:15, when a complaint was lodged about a body spotted in the water area of the sanitation facility. Officers from the Heidedal police station were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement officials found the remains of an African male lying on his back, with the lower half of his body partially submerged in water. The man was wearing a black top paired with black trousers.
Paramedics from Emergency Medical Services were called to the location, where they officially pronounced the individual dead. An inquest docket has since been opened as detectives work to piece together the events leading to the man's death.

At this stage, both the identity and the age of the deceased remain unknown, leaving investigators with limited leads to pursue.
