OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park has resumed normal water services following an interruption that affected all terminals on Saturday. The South African Airports Company (Acsa) initially alerted travellers on Saturday morning that the facility was experiencing a temporary water shortage, with maintenance crews dispatched to address the problem urgently.
By early afternoon, Acsa confirmed that repairs had been completed and water was flowing to all terminals once more. "Repairs have been successfully completed and the water supply has been restored to all terminals. Water pressure is currently building and will continue to normalize," the airports company stated.
Acsa extended an apology to affected passengers and staff. "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience, understanding and cooperation while the repairs were underway," the company said. The precise duration of the water disruption remains unclear.
The incident highlights ongoing water supply challenges in the City of Johannesburg, where outages have become a regular occurrence. Coincidentally, DA mayoral candidate for Johannesburg Helen Zille was present at the airport on Saturday morning, shortly before delivering five pledges to voters at a campaign event in the city ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. Among her commitments was a promise to ensure dependable water provision for all residents.
