Deadly collision claims seven lives near Mogalakwena Bridge
A devastating vehicle accident on the R518 road in Limpopo's Waterberg District has now claimed seven lives after police divers recovered the body of an additional victim two days following the initial crash.
The fatal incident took place on the morning of Wednesday, 24 December 2025, at approximately 09:30, when a white Suzuki mini truck travelling from Mokamole in the direction of Mokopane reportedly struck a bridge barrier near the Mogalakwena Bridge, situated between Tinmyne and Masodi Village.
Emergency services arriving at the scene confirmed that six individuals — four adult males and two adult females — had perished on impact. A further five adults and two children who suffered injuries were rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. The remains of those who died were handed over to the Forensic Pathology Services for further processing.

Search operations lead to grim discovery downstream

Their efforts yielded a tragic result on Friday, 26 December 2025, when the remains of a seventh victim — identified as male — were located more than one kilometre downstream from where the accident had taken place.
Authorities have since opened cases of culpable homicide in connection with the incident. Detectives are continuing their probe into the precise circumstances that led to the driver losing control and colliding with the bridge barrier.
The investigation into what caused the crash remains active, with officers working to establish the full sequence of events and determine whether any contributing factors such as vehicle condition, road circumstances or driver behaviour played a role in the tragedy.
