Community urged to help find missing foreign national
Authorities in Polokwane have renewed their appeal to the public for assistance in tracking down a Zimbabwean national who vanished more than two years ago under unexplained circumstances.
Anyway Chasauka, aged 27, disappeared on 4 January 2023 after he was last spotted at the Indian Center Taxi Rank at approximately 12:30. The young man had been living at a rented property in Olive Ridge, Aloe Waterberry, on the outskirts of Polokwane in Limpopo province.
Efforts by investigators to track Chasauka through known associates and the surrounding areas have so far proved fruitless, prompting law enforcement to turn to community members for any information that could help crack the case.
"Attempts to locate him at friends and surrounding areas did not bear any fruits."
Description of missing man released
At the time of his disappearance, Chasauka was reportedly dressed in a black jacket over a white T-shirt, paired with black tekkies. Police are urging anyone who may have seen a man matching this description on or after the date in question to come forward immediately.
The case remains open and investigations are ongoing as detectives continue to pursue all available leads. Members of the public who may have information regarding Chasauka's whereabouts are encouraged to contact their nearest police station without delay.
Polokwane has seen a number of missing persons cases in recent years, with authorities stressing the importance of community cooperation in resolving such matters. The disappearance from a busy taxi rank in broad daylight has raised concerns about safety in the area.
Anyone with details that could assist investigators is urged to reach out to local law enforcement authorities as soon as possible. All tip-offs will be treated with the strictest confidence.
The prolonged disappearance of a foreign national from a busy public transport hub raises broader concerns about the safety of migrants and commuters in Limpopo's capital city. For local businesses operating near taxi ranks, unresolved cases can erode public confidence and foot traffic. The renewed police appeal after more than two years also highlights resource constraints facing investigators handling missing persons cases, underscoring the critical role communities play in supporting law enforcement efforts across South Africa.
