Harrowing details emerge
According to the investigation, Ms Jordaan was in the company of 12 males at a house in Bongo Street — reportedly used as a drug den — on Tuesday evening, 05 January 2021 at approximately 21:30. She was allegedly gang raped at the location. In the early hours of Wednesday, 06 January 2021, at about 03:00, the group left the premises and split up, with Ms Jordaan accompanying six of the males. Her body was discovered the following day.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to appear before the Port Elizabeth magistrates' court on Monday, 11 January 2021, facing charges of rape and murder.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the multi-disciplinary team for cracking the case and expressed profound shock at the violence inflicted upon a defenceless child.
"Violence against children is totally intolerable therefore we will ensure that these perpetrators are denied bail. The occurrence and societal problem of gender based violence continues to be a profound and widespread problem in our country."
"The further reiterates its commitment to eradicate and eliminate all forms of gender based violence and we call on our citizens to unite against this sick scourge."
Lt Gen Ntshinga's remarks underscored the authorities' determination to secure a conviction and send a firm message that crimes against women and children will be met with the full force of the law.
South Africa continues to grapple with alarming rates of gender-based violence and crimes against children, making cases like this a stark reminder of vulnerabilities facing young people in gang-affected communities. For residents of the Northern Areas of Port Elizabeth, the incident deepens concerns about safety, drug dens operating near homes, and the exploitation of minors. The swift multi-agency response may signal strengthened law enforcement coordination, though lasting change will require sustained investment in community safety and social intervention programmes.
