Husband raises alarm after wife fails to return home

A Bloemfontein family is pleading with the public for assistance in locating Sanna Baadjies, a Khayelitsha resident who has been missing since the early hours of Thursday, 5 March 2026.

Baadjies, who works as a domestic helper in the suburb of Heidedal, left her home at approximately 05:00 that morning to make her way to work. She has not been seen or heard from since.

Her husband, Paul Baadjies, reported that she departed as normal but never returned at the end of the day. When he began making enquiries, it emerged that she had not arrived at her place of employment at all.

"She left the house to go to work where she works as a domestic helper in Heidedal, Bloemfontein, and never returned home."

No leads despite initial investigation

Authorities in the Free State have confirmed that a preliminary search was conducted throughout the Khayelitsha area but yielded no results. Family members have also been unable to establish her whereabouts, deepening concern for her safety.

Adding to the difficulty of the search, it remains unknown what clothing Baadjies was wearing when she left home on the morning of her disappearance. Her employer confirmed to investigators that she simply did not arrive for her shift on the day in question.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding Sanna Baadjies or her possible movements on 5 March 2026 to come forward immediately. Members of the public who may have seen her in or around Khayelitsha or Heidedal are asked to contact their nearest police station.

The case remains under investigation as authorities and loved ones continue their efforts to trace the missing woman.

The disappearance of Sanna Baadjies highlights the daily safety risks faced by millions of South African domestic workers who commute during early morning hours, often through poorly lit and under-policed areas. For families and employers across the Free State, this case underscores vulnerabilities in community safety infrastructure. With no leads and limited initial evidence, the investigation's progress will depend heavily on public cooperation, while the outcome may prompt renewed calls for improved safety measures protecting vulnerable commuters.
