Woman attacked from behind at farm stables
A 50-year-old farmer's wife was brutally attacked by an unknown assailant wearing a balaclava at a farm outside Coligny in the North West province, prompting a police investigation into the violent incident.
The assault took place on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, at roughly 16:30, when the woman stepped out of her home to feed a horse at the property's stables. The suspect ambushed her from behind, striking her with a steel object before she managed to fight him off. The attacker then fled the scene on foot.
Despite sustaining injuries during the ordeal, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention and was discharged later that same day. Authorities have since opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (Assault GBH) in connection with the attack.
No arrests yet as motive remains unclear
Investigators have confirmed that no arrests have been made thus far, and the motive behind the assault remains unknown. The case is currently under active investigation as detectives work to identify and apprehend the suspect.
North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General (Dr) Ryno Nadioo, has spoken out firmly against the attack.
