Armed trio ambush family during school run
A 38-year-old Algoa Park resident fought back against three armed robbers who stormed his home on Thursday morning, shooting and wounding one of the suspects during a dramatic confrontation in Fairham Street.
The harrowing ordeal began at approximately 08:00 when the homeowner's wife was seated in her vehicle, preparing to drive their children to school. Three unidentified men approached her and threatened her at gunpoint before forcing her back inside the residence.
Once inside, the trio came face to face with the woman's husband. The suspects made their way into the bedroom, where they seized jewellery before the situation took a decisive turn.
"The complainant managed to gain access to his firearm and fired shots at the suspects, wounding one in his abdomen."
The homeowner's swift reaction caught the intruders off guard. After retrieving his own licensed firearm, he opened fire on the suspects, striking one of them in the stomach. The wounded man was left incapacitated as the confrontation escalated further.
Suspects flee, abandon wounded accomplice
One of the remaining suspects returned fire at the homeowner while simultaneously dragging their injured accomplice towards the exit. In a desperate bid to escape, the two fleeing men ultimately abandoned their wounded associate in the yard of the property before disappearing from the scene.
Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to the incident. The injured suspect was placed under police guard and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His condition has not yet been disclosed.
Authorities have opened cases of house robbery and attempted murder in connection with the incident. The two suspects who managed to escape remain at large, and investigations are ongoing to track them down.
