At least six people have been killed following the collapse of a structure at Amethyst Business Park in Ormonde, southern Johannesburg, on Monday. City of Johannesburg Department of Public Safety spokesperson Rhulani Mgwambane confirmed that two people remain trapped beneath the debris, with emergency personnel working urgently to free them.

Mgwambane said three additional individuals are still missing. "Three individuals are still unaccounted for, and search and rescue teams are actively working to determine their whereabouts," he stated. Crews on the ground continue their efforts to locate those who have not yet been found.

The cause of the structural collapse has yet to be determined. Mgwambane indicated that a full investigation would only commence once all affected persons have been accounted for. "Our immediate priority is extracting those who are trapped and finding the missing individuals. A comprehensive investigation will be launched once every person involved has been accounted for," he told media.

The public has been urged to avoid the area surrounding the collapse site so that rescue operations can continue unhindered.
