Search intensifies for missing Mooinooi man who vanished after contacting wife - South African news

Desperate hunt for mentally challenged mine worker

Authorities in Mooinooi, near Brits in the North West province, are appealing to the public to help track down Annastatia Vuledzani Singo (41), who has been missing since late October 2022. The 41-year-old resident of Fuchsia Street in Mooinooi left his home on the morning of Monday, 31 October 2022, heading to his place of employment at a nearby mine, and has not been seen by his family since.

According to available information, Singo departed from his residence at approximately 06:00 that morning to report for duty at a local mining operation. Roughly two hours after leaving home, he placed a telephone call to his wife, telling her he was in the Mooinooi area. That was the last time his family heard from him, as he failed to return home later that day.

The last confirmed sighting of Singo was reported by a fellow worker at the mine on Tuesday, 01 November 2022, after which his whereabouts became entirely unknown. Despite extensive efforts to locate him, including searches conducted throughout the neighbourhood and the broader Mooinooi vicinity, no trace of the missing man has been found.

"The police also phoned his relatives in Limpopo, however, he could not be found."

Description and appeal for public assistance

Investigators have provided a detailed description of Singo to aid in the search. At the time he went missing, he was dressed in a green work suit featuring a yellow stripe, along with a navy blue T-shirt. He is described as tall in height with a medium build, brown in complexion, and has a bald head.

Crucially, the public is advised that Singo is mentally challenged, which heightens concerns for his safety and wellbeing. This factor has added urgency to the ongoing search operation, as his condition may make him particularly vulnerable.

Law enforcement officers stationed in Mooinooi are urging community members who may have any information regarding Singo's current location or movements since his disappearance to come forward without delay. Even the smallest piece of information could prove vital in bringing the missing man home safely to his family.

Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact their nearest police station immediately.

The prolonged disappearance of a vulnerable mine worker raises serious questions about workplace safety protocols and the support systems available for mentally challenged employees in South Africa's mining sector. Communities near mining operations may face growing pressure to strengthen local safety networks, while families of missing persons endure prolonged uncertainty. Renewed public attention could prompt authorities to review missing persons procedures, particularly for vulnerable individuals in mining towns across the North West province.
