Community outreach brings warmth to Maletswai's most vulnerable
The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem,ثم alongside her senior management team and personnel from the District office, Aliwal North, and specialised units,ثم organised a soup kitchen initiative on 06 June at the Johanna Maria Community Park in Maletswai, Eastern Cape, providing hot meals to disadvantaged children and destitute street dwellers.
Preparations began in the early hours of the morning as volunteers gathered with a shared sense of purpose and compassion. The event brought together law enforcement members and community members in a collective effort to offer nourishment and hope to those most in need.
Beyond providing food, the gathering served as an opportunity to educate young attendees about personal safety and the dangers of substance abuse. Crime prevention tips were shared with the children, equipping them with practical knowledge on how to protect themselves and steer clear of drugs.

Major General Vellem expressed her gratitude to all those who contributed their time, resources and energy to making the day a resounding success. She emphasised that the true measure of generosity lies not in the quantity of what is given, but in the love and sincerity behind each act of kindness.
The soup kitchen project forms part of broader community engagement efforts by the Joe Gqabi District office, aimed at strengthening relationships between police services and the communities they serve, particularly among the most vulnerable members of society.
