Buildings reopen following health protocols

The South African Police Service in the Free State has confirmed that its provincial office at the Metpol Building and the Phillipolis station are once again fully operational after temporary closures prompted by confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Solly Lesia announced the resumption of services, assuring members of the public that all necessary health measures had been implemented before the facilities reopened their doors.

"All health protocols have since been followed and affected members were quarantined and isolated accordingly."

The closures had been instituted as a precautionary step after staff members at both locations tested positive for the virus. During the shutdown period, the affected personnel were placed under quarantine and isolation in line with established health guidelines.

Apology for disruption to services

Major General Lesia expressed regret over any disruption the temporary closures may have caused to communities relying on services at the two locations. He acknowledged the inconvenience and thanked the public for their patience while the necessary safety procedures were carried out.

The reopening signals a return to normal policing operations in the affected areas of the Free State, with both facilities now accessible to residents seeking assistance.

Authorities have urged the public to continue observing health and safety protocols when visiting police stations across the province.

The reopening of these Free State police facilities directly affects residents who depend on local stations for reporting crimes, obtaining affidavits, and accessing emergency services. Temporary closures can delay justice processes and leave communities feeling vulnerable, particularly in rural areas like Phillipolis where alternative stations may be far away. As Covid-19 cases continue to surface in public institutions, further intermittent disruptions remain possible, underscoring the need for sustained workplace health measures across government services.
